Next Generation / Special Steel | DCMX | CP4M |
CP4M is a cold work steel, but a matrix type “next-generation” steel, specially developed by Dörrenberg. It is a Cr-Mo-V alloyed, secondary hardenable cold work tool steel with high toughness to prevent cracking and chipping. Dimensionally stable, easily machined, it has better weldability & through hardenability compared to the carbide rich cold work tool steel 1.2379. Excellent base for nitriding or coating.
Typical applications:
CP4M is good for deep drawing, punching and cutting tools, tools for hot & cold forming of higher tensile sheet material. Good for die & mould making.
AKM Tip:
Whilst CPM4 is a superb next generation tool steel, the metallurgy of tool steels is complex, so if you need any help determining the best steel for a given application, please get in touch with details of your intended usage.
