Dörrenberg Edelstahl History
Dörrenberg Edelstahl was founded in Germany on 1st May 1860 by brothers Friedrich and Rudolph Dorrrenberg, although the family had been active in the iron and steel industry before this date, owning hammer mills along the Agger and Leppe rivers. In 1869, they took the decisive step of purchasing land and works at Runderoth and this is where Dörrenberg remains to this day – albeit in much-expanded form with four state-of-the-art production plants. With over 500 employees, subsidiaries in 7 countries and partners like us in 15 counties, Dörrenberg is today one of Europe’s major players in the steel market. They have 4 divisions, and it is the Special Steels division that we deal with:
- Special Steels
- Steel Foundry
- Casting Products
- Coating and Hardening
Quality & Product Development
Dörrenberg attach great importance to quality assurance, research, continuous product development and innovation, hence their stock of not just standard tool steels but their own range of next generation special steels, designed to outperform the older more traditional grades.
Since 1995 they have implemented the ISO 9001:2015 quality management system in addition to The Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU and the proof of welding activity DIN EN ISO 383-2.
The special steel division has its own steel mill, enhanced by the company’s detailed metallurgical knowledge.
They are also passionate about the environment, hence since 1997, they have had a certified environmental management system DIN EN ISO 14001, which is checked by regular audits, as well as an energy management system enhanced in accordance with the requirements of the DIN EN 50001 : 2011 standard.
